RISE with the Firsts (Boys' Session)
RISE with The Firsts (Boys Ages 11–13)
RISE with The Firsts is a dynamic, year-long language arts program that combines strong writing instruction with the inspiring biographies of the Prophet's SAWS companions. Designed specifically for boys ages 11–13, this hands-on course uses Yaqeen Institute's acclaimed series, The Firsts to help students develop essential writing skills while learning from the courage, character, leadership, and sacrifices of the Sahabah.
Beginning this fall, students will continue with Episode 48, following Shaykh Omar Suleiman's powerful series as they explore the lives of the remarkable men and women who stood alongside the Prophet SAWS and carried the message of Islam forward.
This course follows a flipped classroom model, allowing students to engage with the lesson content at home so that class time can focus on deeper discussion, collaboration, and hands-on writing practice.
Each week, students will:
Watch the assigned episode of The Firsts by Shaykh Omar Suleiman.
Complete thoughtfully designed writing assignments created by Dr. Mohiuddin, specifically curated to support each student's strengths, interests, and areas for growth.
Submit assignments through Google Classroom and receive personalized instructor feedback to help them improve their writing and communication skills.
Participate in workshop-style classroom sessions filled with group collaboration, critical thinking, discussion, revision, and real-life application.
Throughout the year, students will strengthen their skills in:
Expository writing
Analytical and reflective writing
Creative writing
Grammar and language mechanics
Vocabulary development
Reading comprehension
Critical thinking
Public speaking and presentations
Effective communication
By studying the lives of the Sahabah, students will explore timeless lessons in faith, perseverance, responsibility, leadership, and service. They will learn to connect these lessons to their own lives while developing the confidence to express their thoughts clearly through writing and discussion.
The goal of this course is to nurture young Muslim men who are grounded in their faith, inspired by the examples of the Sahabah, and equipped with the communication skills needed to become thoughtful leaders and contributors to their communities.
